Book AppointmentMyopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a common vision condition that causes distant objects to appear blurry while nearby objects remain clear.
It has become increasingly prevalent, especially among children. If left untreated, myopia can cause several problems later in life, and possibly increase the risk of other eye conditions and concerns.
Myopia occurs when the eyeball is slightly elongated, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. This results in blurred distance vision. While myopia can be easily corrected with glasses or contact lenses, addressing its progression is essential, as higher levels of myopia can lead to an increased risk of eye diseases.
At Moses Eyecare, we offer various myopia management options tailored to each individual’s needs. Our skilled optometrists can assess your child’s vision and recommend a suitable approach to manage their myopia. Some of the commonly utilized methods include:
Managing myopia early on can have long-term benefits for a child’s eye health and overall quality of life. Slowing down the progression of myopia can help preserve a child’s distance vision and reduce their reliance on corrective eyewear.
By implementing effective myopia management strategies, we aim to give children clearer vision and reduce their risk of developing vision-threatening conditions associated with high myopia.
MiSight contact lenses are a type of soft, daily disposable contact lens designed specifically and FDA-approved for children and teenagers with myopia.
The innovative design of MiSight contacts includes a central vision correction zone to help with clear sight, as well as a peripheral defocus design that helps with slowing down the progression of myopia.
Ortho-k involves using specially designed rigid gas-permeable contact lenses that are worn overnight. These lenses gently reshape the cornea, temporarily correcting myopia and providing clear vision during the day without needing glasses or contact lenses.
We can prescribe low-dose atropine eye drops to slow down the progression of myopia. Atropine works by relaxing the eyes’ focusing mechanism, helping control myopia progression.
Vision therapy involves a series of exercises and activities that aim to improve the coordination and focusing abilities of the eyes. It can help reduce eyestrain and manage the progression of myopia.
Our optometrists will also provide guidance on lifestyle modifications that can contribute to myopia management, such as spending more time outdoors, limiting screen time, and taking regular visual breaks during near work activities.
Effective myopia management offers several benefits for children and adolescents:
If your child is experiencing myopia or you’re concerned about the progression of their nearsightedness, we encourage you to book an appointment with our experienced team at Moses Eyecare Center.
Our dedicated optometrists will conduct a comprehensive assessment, discuss suitable myopia management options, and develop a personalized treatment plan to help preserve your child’s clear vision and eye health for a brighter future.
